
Commemorating World Mangrove Day which falls on July 26, Yayasan Mitra Insani (YMI) carries out various activities in efforts to save and protect mangroves for sustainable life.
One of them, by holding the 2023 Mangrove sons and daughters election in Indragiri Hilir regency (Inhil) from Thursday 27-29 July 2023 at the Elite tembilahan Hotel Hall.
YMI director, Herbet Linto Retto Panggabean, in his speech on the eve of the Mangrove Day Festival said that efforts to save and protect mangrove ecosystems needed joint collaboration.
‘Both from the community, stakeholders and various parties with the aim of protecting mangroves for sustainable life,’ he said
He also said that the presence of the mangrove children’s event was a forum to attract young people in Indragiri Hilir regency to increase awareness and knowledge about the importance of maintaining the integrity of natural ecosystems.
‘We hope that the election of Mangrove children can be a new spirit in efforts to save and protect mangrove ecosystems in Indragiri Hilir regency.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Indragiri Hilir, represented by Assistant I, added that it is important for us to repeat the message that the role of mangrove forests to support life in coastal areas is very vital.
‘Let us preserve mangrove forests, preserve our environment so that it can be enjoyed for the next generation,’ he concluded.
Previously, a series of activities commemorating World Mangrove day in Indragiri Hilir regency were carried out with the general public.
Among them are the organization of a healthy leisurely walk, a talk show entitled Mangrove and its Resource Management, the announcement of the winners of the mangrove Inhil sons and daughters, namely Zaskia Putri and Raja Zidan Adamme at the peak night on Sunday 30 July 2023.
As well as enlivened by the presence of local bands of Riau namely market Wadai Jamaica, Beekibo (concrete grip).

At the same time, on the same occasion, the signing of a cooperation agreement was carried out.
The cooperation of Desa Mandiri Peduli Mangrove (DMPM) between YMI, Badan Restorasi peatland dan Mangrove (BRGM) and assisted villages are Igal and Pulau Cuang villages, Mandah Sub-District, Sungai Piyai Village, Tanjung Melayu, and Sapat Village, Kuala Indragiri Sub-District.
