Indragiri Hilir, July 25, 2026 – The Yayasan Mitra Insani (YMI) held a commemoration of World Mangrove Day 2026 at Solop Beach, Pulau Cawan Village, Mandah District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, on Saturday (July 25). Themed “Coastal Community Collaboration for Climate, Life, and Well-Being,” this event provided a momentum to strengthen synergy between the village government, community groups, and various stakeholders in preserving the mangrove ecosystem.
The event, supported by OCEAN (Ocean Community Empowerment and Nature) and funded by UK International Development for the 2024–2027 period, was attended by approximately 165 participants.
The participants included the Mandah District Head, 12 village heads assisted by the Mitra Insani Foundation, 18 Community-Based Organization (CBO) groups assisted by the Mitra Insani Foundation, and the surrounding community of Pulau Cawan Village.
The series of activities began with an exhibition of superior community products, an infographic exhibition showcasing community group profiles, and a photo exhibition documenting the Mitra Insani Foundation’s mentoring journey with community groups in protecting village forests and mangrove ecosystems.
Participants also participated in discussions with Community-Based Organization (CBO) groups to share experiences, challenges, and strategies for strengthening sustainable community-based forest management.
After the discussion session, all participants headed to the planting location in the open area of Solop Beach. The planting of 50 mangrove seedlings was led by Mandah Sub-district Head Idrus, M.Pd.I., accompanied by 12 village heads and representatives of community groups managing village forests. Solop Beach, known as one of the mangrove tourism destinations in Indragiri Hilir Regency, was chosen as the planting location due to its ecological value and potential as an educational and conservation-based tourism area.
“This planting was carried out in commemoration of World Mangrove Day. With this one seedling, many benefits will grow,” said Idrus.
In his opening remarks, Mandah Sub-district Head Idrus, M.Pd.I., stated that mangrove planting is not merely a ceremonial activity, but a long-term investment for environmental sustainability and the well-being of coastal communities.
Tairo, Head of Batang Sari Village, expressed his appreciation for the event. He stated that the commemoration of World Mangrove Day is an important momentum to strengthen collaboration in preserving mangroves, which support the lives of coastal communities.
“This Mangrove Day is a historic moment, a reminder to improve the mangrove ecosystem. Hopefully, this moment will benefit the community in the future. There is ongoing collaboration between the village government and the community in preserving mangroves,” said Tairo.
Through the commemoration of World Mangrove Day 2026, the Yayasan Mitra Insani hopes that the collaboration that has been established between the government, the community, and village forest management groups will be strengthened. This spirit of togetherness is expected to encourage sustainable mangrove management, thereby providing tangible benefits to the environment, strengthening resilience to climate change, and improving the well-being of coastal communities.
